Webinar: Opportunities for East African oilseeds exporters on the European market

Europe imported almost 20 billion euros worth of oilseeds in 2022. Most imports are bulk commodities for processing and feed purposes, but there is also a good share of specialty seeds, such as sesame, food-grade soybean, and chia seeds. Among Europe's suppliers are several East African countries. Uganda has become Africa's main exporter of chia seeds, and there are sesame imports of several million euros from Ethiopia. 

In this webinar we will analyse the trade flows and discuss opportunities for oilseed suppliers in this region. We will focus on questions such as:

• How is the oilseed trade developing between East Africa and Europe?
• Which products, markets and segments offer opportunities in Europe?
• What are the reasons for buyers to source in East Africa?
• What do you need to become an exporter to Europe?

Michel Peperkamp, market specialist at ICI Business

Michel is a researcher and export consultant in the food (ingredients) and oilseeds industry. He has guided trade missions and companies looking for new markets in Europe. He has been CBI's lead researcher in the grains, pulses and oilseeds sector for over 8 years. 

In this webinar, Michel will provide an overview of the oilseed trade, with a particular focus on potential opportunities for East African suppliers.

Marco Fischer, CEO of Nungesser

Marco is the CEO of Nungesser, a leading sourcing and distribution company for various food ingredients. The company specialises in the sustainable sourcing of organic seeds, pulses and nuts. Nungesser imports organic sesame and organic chia from East Africa, mainly from Uganda.
