Garments (Colombia)

Garments Colombia is part of CBI’s Country Programme Colombia. The country programme covers several different sectors. In the garments sector, our focus is on increasing Colombia’s exports of high-end shapewear and beachwear.

Many Colombian garments manufacturers are specialised in shapewear and beachwear. They already export to other destinations, such as the United States. Our aim with this programme is to help them enter the European market. In Europe there is a growing demand for quality shapewear. This offers Colombian manufacturers a very good business opportunity.

Project details

This programme began in 2014 and will end in 2018. In 2014, we selected participants. Since then we have  trained and coached these companies in order to help them prepare for entering the European market. They understand what European buyers want. And they are developing products that will sell well in Europe. For example, they are using special materials and creating designs that match European fashion.

The final phase of the garments programme is market entry. This has already begun. Four of the Colombian companies have exhibited at Europe’s leading trade show for this segment in Paris, Mode City for the first time in July, 2016. The other companies of the programme will participate at this exhibition in the following years.

Project participants and products

A total of 9 Colombian garment companies are taking part in this programme. They are all small or medium-sized brands offering good quality shapewear and beachwear products.

CBI is working with two Colombian business support organisations in this programme:

• ProColombia, the government’s export promotion agency
• Inexmoda, Colombia’s garments exporters’ association

These organisations helped us select participating companies. They are also helping us by facilitating the programme activities.
