Garments and Textiles Guatemala
Garments and Textiles Guatemala is a short (three-year) export coaching programme for a group of 8 Guatemalan companies. They are strong companies already exporting to the USA. The goal of this programme is to help them enter the European market.
Most European fashion companies do not know that Guatemala has a small, but strong garments industry. The Guatemalan garments sector produces good quality. Its companies also comply with most international regulations and requirements. This makes it attractive for European buyers to get supplies from Guatemala.
Project details
This programme began in 2014 and will end in 2016. In the first we selected the participants. In 2015 CBI organised a market orientation mission for these companies. We took them to Europe to get to know the market.
In 2016 the focus is on market entry. We will attend the Apparel Sourcing and Maison & Objet trade fair in France with the Guatemalans in 2016. We are also considering other market entry activities. One possibility is to organise a trade mission for Dutch or European buyers to visit the companies in Guatemala. Another possibility is to organise showrooms, or matchmaking events in Europe.
The goal is to help these companies to start doing business on the European market in 2016.
Project participants and products
A total of 8 companies are taking part in this programme, covering both brands and private label manufacturing. They offer different kinds of products, such as socks, shapewear, products and accessories made of recycled denim fabrics and modern Maya designs.
