Morocco Apparel

In 2021, CBI started the Morocco Apparel project. Despite significant efforts to continue the project and integrate lessons learnt, we had to end it in February 2025. An in-depth project evaluation led to this decision.

Project details

The Morocco Apparel project aimed to make the Moroccan apparel sector more sustainable. We focused on decarbonisation and connecting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with European markets that require sustainability.

Project activities

The project started in 2021 with a digital stakeholder conference. Afterwards, we organised a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) study and webinar. Topics included opportunities and challenges of circularity, chemicals and water usage in the apparel industry.

Next, the project was put on hold to align it with the CBI Strategy 2021-2025. In 2024, the project restarted with an inception phase. We used this time to:

  • build relationships with key stakeholders;
  • discuss the sector's needs regarding sustainability and decarbonisation and identify potential project partners;
  • develop an intervention strategy, focusing on sustainability, decarbonisation, diversification and sector readiness for these developments;
  • validate this strategy through a stakeholder workshop.

Unfortunately, due to the decision to end the project, we did not implement these interventions.
